Spejlvæsener 2025
Spejlvæsener, 2025
Spejlvæsener (Mirror Creatures) is a series of sculptures created for the Måløv Børnehus (Måløv By Children’s Centre)
Taking reflections as a starting point to explore relationships, community, self-determination and self-perception, visual and performance artist Molly Haslund and architect Aspasia Balta ran a series of workshops for the children at Børnehuset Måløv By back in 2024.
Inspired by these workshops, the completed ‘Spejlvæsener’ was created. The series of sculptures is made of galvanised and polished steel, with the polished surfaces acting as mirrors. Two of the sculptures resemble signs: vertical forms with circular elements at the top in polished steel, which reflect the child and their surroundings at eye level.
A series situated centrally in the courtyard consists of round platforms on which children can sit or stand. Above the platforms, the circular mirror elements are repeated, positioned at varying heights, so that the reflections constantly change depending on the child’s position, movement and height. In addition, there is a large circular sculpture, the upper part of which is made of polished steel and reflects the sky, the light and the surrounding space. The sculpture connects earth and sky and also invites physical and sensory awareness.
Spejlvæsener reflect the children, the space and the community around them. The sculptures are designed to be used, discovered and rediscovered – they are objects for play, relaxation and wonder, and the reflections become a way of seeing oneself as part of something greater.
